Sicily

I love Italy, always have, always will.

We spent three days in Palermo (maffia city)... dirty place but pretty cozy. There we learnt about their "many" (about three or four) specialties;
1. They eat all sorts of ice cream (very tasty) but in a bread
2. 'Granita' is some sort of mix between Slush Ise, daiquiri, lemonade and a smoothie. A bit wierd but tasty too.
3. Something I don't remember but it wasn't supposed to taste good so naturally we never tasted it...
4. Same with the fourth one

Anyway, after three days in Palermo we took the train and a speed boat to our dear Italian-New York friend Fede on the stunning island, Salina. We rented a vespa and did all sorts of italian and unitalian stuff. I was for exemple on antibiotics which also made everything a little bit more interesting. We drank a whole lot of great sicilian wine, eate great food, watched while lawa poored out of a very active vulcano, caugt a glimps of some great fireworks while eating the best pizza ever underneath a solid black sky sprinkled with stars. Fedes parents had a lovely boat, a Hinckley i suppose. In total I think we saw around twenty starfalls and Fedes stepfather learned two new words; Tasty and Swordfish. I on the other hand ended up burning my leg on Fedes exhaust pipe, twise.
We went back on the speed boat two days later and rented a Fiat at Hertz car rental. Very handy.
With it we drove a few hours to a smaller town called Giargini-Naxos. There we slept in the little Fiat for two full nights. Much more comfortable than it sounds actually. There - great beaches, hillside cities with amazing wievs of the sea and suroundings. The great food continued and ended in a dinner where I was really close to throwing up (unwillingly!). But oh so good.
From there we went back to the harbour city where we returned the car, got back on the train and went back to dirty Palermo for a good shower and a well deserved nights sleep. A fantastic week.

Thanks to:

R. for the flight tickets, the dinner and much more...
